Celebrity marriages are not often known for their longevity but at times, we may hear about a couple that has spent decades together. These are the people that we look to for advice on how to make our relationships last as well.
One Hollywood couple that has been married for 47 years is Jeff Bridges and his wife Susan. They have had a long, loving relationship with each other and they help us to know what to do to experience the same.
Jeff Bridges, who is an Oscar-winning actor, met Susan in 1975. He was visiting a restaurant in Paradise Valley, Montana during the filming of Rancho Deluxe. Susan was a waitress and she caught his eye.
At first, he had almost instantaneous feelings for her but she was not impressed with his celebrity status. Things turned around eventually.
“I am doing this scene with Sam Waterston and Harry Dean Stanton,” he said. “And I cannot take my eyes off this gorgeous, I didn’t know what she was, a maid, a waitress, I couldn’t take my eyes off of her.”
After mustering up the courage to ask her out, she said no but when he saw her again, she was more receptive to his advances. He said they danced and fell in love, and the rest is history.
Jeff and Susan Bridges now have three daughters together. Those girls are in their 30s and 40s. Over the years, they have had to deal with family stress and work stress, but they keep things as fresh as possible in their relationship with each other.
Jeff said: “It’s when those big challenges, those upsets come up in your relationship, those are real opportunities to get to know each other more and become more intimate with each other, try to see what makes each other tick.”
Susan also added that it is important to keep things fun with your spouse and Jeff agreed. He said that you should have as much fun as you can.
Sounds like great advice to me.
