Kathy Bates has been a part of our entertainment lives for many years. Recently, however, reports came in that caused quite a stir among her fans.
Recently, she spoke about retirement in an interview, and people began to panic. They loved watching her on Matlock, and they couldn’t imagine the show without her.
This got cleared up on September 15, however, when Kathy Bates was on the red carpet at the 76th Primetime Emmys. She spoke to reporters and put aside the rumors that retirement was in her near future.
Although she did admit to being ‘flattered’ that so many were concerned about her possibly retiring, she said that her words were taken out of context.
She cleared things up, saying: “What I meant was I had one foot out the door until I read the script for Matlock. And then I read some Matlock and I went ‘Okay, close the door we are going to do some more!’ I want it to run for years, it’s that great.”
In the original Matlock series that ran from 1986 until 1995, Andy Griffith starred as Matlock. Kathy Bates plays the role of Madalyn Matlock, a senior citizen who comes back to the workforce to fight wrongdoing.
Bates has said that she is a hard worker and has put a lot into her career. She felt that Matlock was the perfect show for her when she read the script. She does get tired at times, but that’s normal.
She said: “Everything I’ve prayed for, worked for, clawed my way up for, I am suddenly able to be asked to use all of it and it’s exhausting.”
She also spoke about how excited they were, because, in her words: “It’s unlike anything you have ever seen. There’s a whole other thing going on. There’s a whole twist that people will really be surprised at. We got a great cast.”
